’20’ Maison Martin Margiela Exhibition, London

There are loads of influential fashion houses that have been around for a long time and are now considered to be legendary.

Only a few of the more modern ones have gained iconic status after as little as 20 years on the international catwalks.

Maison Martin Margiela is one of those, and that’s why ’20’, a travelling exhibition celebrating its two decades, makes sense.

After its original stint in Antwerp in 2008 (the real anniversary year), it moved on to Munich and is now concluding at London’s Somerset House.

All the things that make the Margiela different are represented here: the anonymity of Martin himself, blind-folded models and MMM staff in their white coat uniforms, frays and clothes in different states of deconstruction, big shoulders and of course, the famous obsession with over sized items.

The exhibition is shown at Sommerset House in London until  September 5th, 2010.

Maison Martin Margiela menswear will be stocked at 4 in 2011.
