Adam Brown Of Orlebar Brown Interview

Launched by photographer Adam Brown in 2007 as a men’s shorts brand, Orlebar Brown has since gone from strength to strength, branching out to feature a range of sweatshirts, polo shirts and trousers, along with a women’s and children’s range.

You launched Orlebar Brown in 2007. How did you come to launch your own brand, and why swimshorts?

t was just one of those moments when by a pool for a friends 40th birthday looking around and thinking all the women in the group looked great – and the men looked dreadful.

The Bulldog is one of Orlebar Brown’s most loved designs. What do you think it is about them that men love so much?

The bulldog short I feel has been so popular because it is essentially a timeless mid-length classic that has a broad appeal and is a safe starting point in terms of length. Details such as the 4 part shaped waistband, zip fly, front pockets in quick drying fabric all with our signature side fastners contribute to why I feel they have been a success.

How have you found the response for your latest Spring-Summer 2014 collection?

For our summer collection we have been exploring the word ‘jungle’.  Flora, fauna, exotic animals and birds of paradise in vibrant colours all take centre stage.

How has the brand developed over the past five years?

In 2010 we took OB off the beach, out of the pool and into the resort with our first T’s, polos and shirts.  The collection has now developed into a full lifestyle resort based collection around the theme of holiday, travel, sunshine and good times.

Orlebar Brown is exclusive to 4.
