Audrey Hepburn’s Wardrobe Auction

THE wardrobe of eternal style icon Audrey Hepburn has fetched £268,320 at auction.

The mere mention of Audrey’s wardrobe is near cliched these days but seeing the lots for sale up close made us appreciate just how stylish this icon was and why she still generates so much interest.

More than 40 items belonging to the actress – sold by her friend Tanja Star-Busmann – went under the hammer in December at Kerry Taylor Auctions, with 50 per cent of the net sale proceeds of lots being donated to The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund.

A Chantilly lace cocktail gown by Givenchy, worn by Audrey in How To Steal A Million in 1966, sold for £60,000 – exceeding its £15,000 – £20,000 estimate and making it the highest sale of the collection.

Other highlights included a turquoise silk cocktail gown from Givenchy’s autumn/winter 1966 collection, which sold for £18,000 and the Fontana sisters-designed ivory bridal gown, which sold for £13,800.
