‘Lodge’ by Suppose Design Office, Hiroshima

The latest Japanese project to grab our attention is this hair salon called ‘Lodge’ located in Hiroshima, created by Suppose Design Office.

What makes the space so striking is the unique no-walls concept; divisions are made entirely by a series of partitions, breaking up the space but also maintaining  continuity throughout. The architect, Makoto Tanijiri, said, “When I design, I think about space without any stereotypes”.

The focal point of the design is the floating mirror strip that surrounds the main salon area. The frosted mirror hangs at eye level for a seated customer, and affords a sense of privacy as only certain sections of the mirror are actually reflective. In turn, staff are able to move through the space efficiently whilst maintaining a view of the entire salon at all times.
