‘Saved by Droog’, Milan Salone

This year, Milan Design Week has shed new light on the environmental impact of objects, consumption habits and longevity of life-cycles. And quite aptly, Dutch design group Droog have curated a collection of various items saved from liquidation auctions, calling their effort ‘Saved by Droog’.
The exhibition asks, “Every month about 500 companies in the Netherlands go bankrupt. Where do their products go?” The answer came in the form of 2500 handkerchiefs, 720 cola glasses, 500 matchboxes, 448 wallets and the list just goes on. 14 artists were then asked to select the items as raw materials for creative re-interpretation.

Among the highlights were Stefan Sagmeister’s ‘Happy Wallets’ comprising 448 leftover mass-produced vinyl money holders which he embossed with gold lettering to spell out positive phrases.

Droog is exclusive to 4 in Kuwait.
