Last February, Oskar Metsavaht´s Rio headquarters burned to the ground, destroying years of archived pieces, and design material.
What might have been a devastating loss for less inspired designers turned into a creative strength for the Carioca designer.
Taking inspiration from the idea of the phoenix, Metsavaht sent out a collection, titled Osklen on fire, which offered the brand´s fans a clean slate from which to start metaphorically rebuilding their wardrobes.
In a sense, the fire left him with one compelling option, to go back to the basics which form the foundation of his line – organic forms that meld Rio´s signature ease with experimental structures, all stitched out of a pared back palette of cashmeres and stretch wools in solid colors often paired with a neutral backdrop of grey, beige and a little black.
The collection was on show last week at Sao Paulo Fashion week.
