Lady Gaga continuously makes headlines for her crazy on-stage antics when she performs live -Â baths, blood and an exploding bra spring to mind…
However on Tuesday night’s 2010 Brit Awards in the UK, we were treated to a different side of Lady Gaga – her poignant tribute to the late Alexander McQueen was both beautiful and haunting. As close friend and muse of the iconic designer, Gaga introduced her performance with the words ‘This is for Alexander McQueen’ before launching into an acoustic version of ‘Telephone’ and going on to wow the crowds with a more energetic ‘Dance in the Dark’.
Through the heavy fog that seemed to enshroud the stage, the centrepiece of the all-white set was a replica Lady Gaga perched on a pedestal complete with avant-garde piano skirt and infamous McQueen SS10 ‘Armadillo’ shoes, that she first wore in her ‘Bad Romance’ video. Though it was rumoured that she would wear a simple black leotard to perform for the crowd, Lady Gaga didn’t disappoint with a dramatic white lace and tulle ensemble, complete with towering beehive wig and Phillip Treacy lace mask.
Gaga went on to win several awards throughout the night, including International Female Solo Artist, Best International Album and International Breakthrough Artist.
Lady Gaga, we salute you.
