Medical Herbman Café Project by EARTHSCAPE

This is one of those simple, social projects that deserves to be lauded!

Japanese landscape design studio EARTHSCAPE have created a giant travelling human-shaped herb garden, dubbed ‘Herbman’. Called the Medical Herbman Café Project (MHCP), the garden travels around in shipping containers and turns into a pop-up shop and cafe at each location (from which proceeds are used to build schoolyard playgrounds in developing countries). Herbs are planted in a human formation, placed according to the anatomy of the body they can benefit.

The idea is that the garden becomes a socially-aware project, designed to teach, inspire and give something back. All necessary production and activity that occurs around the project becomes an element of the design, in this circular, sustainable program. The garden has already visited three different locations across Japan last year, and there are plans to take the project internationally in the future.
