Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, London

In its 40th anniversary year, London’s Serpentine Gallery has announced that it’s 10th Gallery Pavilion will be designed by world-renowned French architect Jean Nouvel.

The Pavilion commission is recognised as an international site for architectural experimentation, and Nouvel will follow a series of some of the world’s greatest architects who have turned their hand to the project.

Nouvel’s vision for the 2010 model is an exploration of lightweight materials and dramatic metal cantilevered structures, all rendered in the iconic red that can be seen on traditional British telephone booths, postboxes and London buses.

The bold, geometric structure with large retractable awnings and a free-standing wall plays with the juxtaposition of interior and exterior spaces, also creating versatility in the unpredictable British summer weather.
